Bible Verses About Love for Children

Owe read in psalm 139 that God cares deeply about us -even at the stage of being an unborn baby, the Lord had His hand on us. In the New Testament, Christ teaches that we are to address God as "Father", as he addresses him as Father (John 17). Paul echoes this expression when he writes "by him we cry, 'Abba, Father'." - giving us a wonderful picture of what it means to be in relationship with God. A parents relationship with their children is to reflect this heavenly friendship, and pass on the love, wonder and strength of God to the next generation (Psalms 103:12-13 and Psalms 78:2-4).

We are to teach our children the ways of the Lord in the everyday parts of life - Deuteronomy 11:18-19 (WEB)

"So keep these words deep in your heart and in your soul, and have them fixed on your hand for a sign and marked on your brow; Teaching them to your children, and talking of them when you are at rest in your house or walking by the way, when you go to sleep and when you get up: "

We are to pass on God's wonder, praise and strength to the next generation - Psalms 78:2-4 (BBE)

"Opening my mouth I will give out a story, even the dark sayings of old times; Which have come to our hearing and our knowledge, as they were given to us by our fathers. We will not keep them secret from our children; we will make clear to the coming generation the praises of the Lord and his strength, and the great works of wonder which he has done."

The love a father has for his child is likened to God's love of His people - Psalms 103:12-13 (WEB)

"As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Like a father has compassion on his children, so Yahweh has compassion on those who fear him."

Jesus takes children in his arms to bless them - Mark 10:13-16 (NIV)

"People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them."
