Bible Verses About Love and respect

The topic of respect can be considered from a number of angles. The bible teaches us to show respect for others, whether it is for those older than us (our parents), younger than us (our children) or those in authority over us (such as government or those in church leadership). If we are married, the bible also teaches us to show respect for or husband or wife. We are also to have respect for ourselves, since we have been fashioned and created by the Lord. Here we might think of the respect we could show by not mistreating ourselves (by addictions or indulgence), as well as caring for our mental well being. (Jesus reminds us to “Love your neighbour as you love yourself” – Matthew 22:39). And finally, and most important of all, we are to live with a respect for God – a healthy fear of the living Lord.

Self respect

It is the Lord who has fashioned us in the womb, after His own image (Genesis 1:27):-

Jeremiah 1:5 (BBE)

Before you were formed in the body of your mother I had knowledge of you, and before your birth I made you holy; I have given you the work of being a prophet to the nations.

Psalm 139:13-14 (NIV)

For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” When Ananias heard these words, he fell down and breathed his last. And great fear came upon all who heard of it. ...
